LÚ SEDOVA

Born in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentinian artist Lú Sedova’s work is admired and in demand across the world.

Her love of soccer has seen her celebrate two of Argentina’s most famous sons, Diego Maradona and Lionel Messi in her art.

She had the honour of presenting Diego Maradona with a stunning portrait one month before his passing. It is a piece which is currently with one of the most prestigious auction houses in the world.

This summer also saw her work which was signed by Lionel Messi and captures both he and Diego Maradona kissing the World Cup, exhibited at the Paris Olympics.

“My greatest passions in life are art and soccer but fashion is also on the podium,” explains Lú. “I am passionate about everything that has to do with aesthetics and creativity.”

“Music is also part of my life, I spend many hours alone working and without music, it would not be possible. I listen to everything from The Rolling Stones to classical music and tango.

Lú was born into a family where soccer was always on the TV and the topic of conversation around the dinner table. it was only natural that one day she would fall in love with the game.

“My love for soccer comes from my grandfather and my dad. The day I was born, my dad hung a shirt from my team, San Lorenzo de Almagro on the door of the hospital room, and from that day I was a fan.

“He took me to the stadium for the first time at the age of 5 and at the age of 7 he made me an affiliate and until this day I have sat in the same seat at every game for 31 years.”

Lú’s love for the club has been captured in her painting of San Lorenzo’s  Estadio Pedro Bidegain; a beautiful piece of art, where you can almost sense the excitable atmosphere of those who going to watch their team play.

A talented, humble artist, with a free spirit, it was a pleasure for The Atlantic Dispatch to sit down with Lú, as she spoke about her journey so far.

I MUCH PREFER NATURE, THE SEA OR THE MOUNTAINS

I was born in the city of Buenos Aires and grew up in a far-away neighbourhood, and then at the age of 5 our family moved to Palermo, a big neighbourhood in the city, and that’s where I grew up.

These days I am based in Buenos Aires, but honestly, I have never liked it that much.

I am always searching for another place to live. Sincerely I don’t like cities, I much prefer nature, the sea or the mountains.

Because of my job, it is easier to work in the city, but maybe one day when I’m famous I might live near the beach, haha.

IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN MY PASSION

Honestly, I really do not know where my love of art came from. I think I was born with that feeling.

I started drawing when I was 6 years old and I have never stopped since. When all my cousins and friends were playing I was drawing in my room, it has been always my passion.

I would say that my work is inspired by soccer, one of my great passions. I am also inspired by fashion (I am a designer and producer) and nature. I’ve always painted all kinds of themes, I’m always waiting for people to order something other than my soccer paintings haha.

I FOUND MY OWN IDENTITY

I don’t know what style I have, I guess because of my studies I found my own identity. In my work, you can find impressionism, realism, and surrealism, depending on the theme I have to paint

I don’t think I have been inspired by others, I don’t have any influences because I don’t look at what other artists do. I found my own identity going through different stadiums and styles.

When working on an order, the basis of the process is to always hear what my client is looking for, based on that, I look for references, ideas, and colour palettes and I put together a composition to show. Of course, the final result may vary in the painting process, but always for a better result.

IT WAS A DIFFICULT CHALLENGE OF WHICH I AM PROUD

I think I have painted more than 60 works that have been distributed around the world. I don’t remember all of them anymore, but I think one of my favourites is Messi and Diego kissing the trophy. It is an image that I created myself and does not exist anywhere else in the world. It was a difficult challenge of which I am proud.

Through a lot of perseverance, I have had several achievements throughout my career. Among the most prominent is the work that I gave to Diego Maradona 1 month before his death. It was with his estate, then it was auctioned and now it is going to be auctioned again in Paris with one of the most important auction houses in the world.

Among other achievements, was being hired by FIFA in the 2022 World Cup as a local alliance to accompany the trophy tour with a work of art, today it is exhibited at FIFA

Lionel Messi also signed a work of mine that was exhibited during the Olympic games in Paris.
