RICCARDO LANCIA CAPTURES FROSINONE CALCIO IN ALL THEIR GLORY

The main challenge is combining sports, portraiture, and fashion—three worlds I’m part of.

The Atlantic Dispatch caught up with Frosinone native, Photographer and Creative Director Riccardo Lancia as he discussed his first steps into photography and his latest shoot for Frosinone Calcio as they unveiled their new kits for the 2024/25 season.

IT CAPTIVATED ME TO BECOME A PHOTOGRAPHER

I’m from Frosinone, and I’ve lived in various cities and travelled to different places across the world for work.

These days I live in Milan. It is a place that has given me the chance to work in the fashion world, alongside a number of exciting brands and magazines. When I’m not working, I often visit exhibitions and museums.

I started photography almost by chance about 12 years ago, and since that moment, I have never stopped. I believe that combining aesthetics and concepts in an image is what captivated me to become a photographer.

I’VE BEEN A SUPPORTER OF FROSINONE CALCIO SINCE I WAS A KID

I wouldn’t know a precise definition of my style but I definitely put into images what I believe best tells the story of what’s in front of me.

I transform my reality into images. I think that would be the best way to describe it.

I’ve been a supporter of Frosinone Calcio since I was a kid. When I had the opportunity, I proposed to take photos of the team jerseys and also document some of their matches, which has been fantastic.

DEMONSTRATING ITS USE IN EVERYDAY LIFE

I recently had the opportunity to shoot the launch of Frosinone’s three new football kits for the 2024/25 season.

The concept of the shoot is divided into two parts. One part involves showcasing the football jerseys worn by the players, shooting them in a simple set that partially evokes the fashion world.

In other photos, I preferred to shoot with women to show how a football jersey can be worn alongside outfits like dresses and skirts, demonstrating its use in everyday life, not just for watching a match or going to the stadium.

I’m quite satisfied with how the images have turned out but I know I can improve certain aspects of my work. The main challenge is combining sports, portraiture, and fashion – three worlds I’m part of. I’m searching for the best way to tell their story, and I have various ideas that I hope to develop soon.
