The Sustainably Stylish Brand That Won Royal Seal of Approval Shortlisted for Creative Scotland’s Crowdmatch

Sustainable and luxury womenswear brand, Ellipsis is delighted to announce that they have been shortlisted in Creative Scotland’s Crowdmatch competition.

Following the success of the initiative in both 2020 and 2021, Creative Scotland and Crowdfunder have teamed up again to launch the Creative Scotland Crowdmatch competition to award funding to 20 creative projects across the country.

Through this initiative, individuals, groups, and businesses across the country can get up to £10,000 towards a crowdfunding campaign to support their creative ideas. Last year’s competition saw 19 creative ideas raise over £204,000, resulting in a total of £75,000 of funding being released.

Founder of Ellipsis Nicole Christie said:

“I am so excited to announce Ellipsis is one of 20 businesses to be shortlisted in the Creative Scotland Crowdmatch. We have the opportunity to win a share of £75,000 in match funding up to £10,000 per project.”

“My project involves creating a new area of Ellipsis called “Make It Yourself” which is due to launch September 2022. The more pledges we raise the more Creative Scotland will donate towards the project. The match funding is available on a first come, first served basis so the race is on.”

“Each pledge towards the project will come with a special reward as a way of showing our gratitude for the support we receive.”

Ellipsis is rewarding special personalised items that have been handmade by founder Nicole Christie to those who pledge their support to Make It Yourself.

Make It Yourself

The Make It Yourself project will include boxes containing pre-cut fabric and fastenings for customers to create an item of their choice.

The boxes will also contain QR codes that allow access to the online Make it Yourself community, step-by-step tutorials, as well as a help and advice forum.

Make it Yourself aims to create a safe space to ask questions and get inspired by others.  With a variety of different items to choose from the boxes are available to all ages and levels of sewers.

People will have the opportunity to connect with likeminded individuals and share their love of sewing.

Sewing has also been proven to have a positive effect on mental health, tackling loneliness and depression. This has been one of the driving forces behind the project for Nicole as well as helping people to learn a new skill and connect communities together.

Nicole added that. “Sewing is a traditional art form that we are at risk of losing due to our mass-produced industry and throwaway society.”

“Ellipsis believes in creating products that can be cherished for years. I really hope that people will join us on a mission to slow down fast fashion.”

Each bag has been crafted from 100% Wool sourced within the UK. Personalise for yourself or for a special gift with initials handprinted on the front.

Royal Seal of Approval

Fashion designer Nicole founded Glasgow-based Ellipsis in 2020, in the face of one of the most turbulent times our society has ever known. Since then, Ellipsis has become a shining light in one of the most polluting industries. On top of this, fashion sites across the globe have now started showing an interest in the sustainable womenswear brand after it earned the Royal seal of approval from the Duchess of Cambridge.

Fashion designer and founder of Ellipsis, Nicole Christie, presents Ellipsis to Camilla Duchess of Cornwall and Kate Duchess of Cambridge.

Nicole explains how she had the honour to present Ellipsis to His Royal Highness Prince Charles, Camilla Duchess of Cornwall, and Kate Duchess of Cambridge:

“It was the most surreal and incredible experience and I was humbled that I was able to gift both the Duchess of Cornwall and the Duchess of Cambridge with a handmade Silk Ellipsis bag along with a Silk hair accessory for Princess Charlotte.”

It has already been quite the journey for Ellipsis this year and it is one that Nicole hopes is only just beginning.

“The quote ‘when you support a small business you support a big dream’ sums this up perfectly. I think we should support and celebrate those who are on their journey to achieving their dreams. A small price for us is a huge milestone for them and you have the opportunity to make it come true.”

Make It Yourself is now live and the more pledges that are raised the more Creative Scotland will donate towards the project, the match funding is available on a first come basis first served basis
