A Shirt with a Story: Genoa’s English Roots Reborn
Kappa® and Genoa CFC proudly present the new away kit for the 2025/26 season, celebrating the historic bond between Genoa and England through the iconic Cross of St. George.
The red cross boldly spans the front of the shirt over a clean white background, honouring one of the most enduring symbols of the Republic of Genoa — a symbol that also appears in the club’s crest beside the legendary Griffin.
This emblem pays homage to a unique heritage. In the Middle Ages, the Republic of Genoa permitted England to sail under the Cross of St. George in exchange for tribute, forging a centuries-old connection. The kit celebrates that shared history — between port cities, football cultures, and flags flown across seas.
On the back, just below the collar, the red cross appears again, reinforcing the visual and symbolic link with the city. Refined details — including an embossed Griffin and premium finishes — complete a design that highlights the identity of Italy’s oldest football club, founded in 1893 by English citizens as the Genoa Cricket and Football Club.
The launch campaign deepens this Anglo-Italian connection, with the slogan “It’s coming home” referencing Genoa’s English roots and football’s journey “back” to one of its most historic homes. Part of the campaign was filmed in James Spensley’s London neighbourhood — the club’s founding figure, a doctor and goalkeeper instrumental in the development of football in Italy.
Shot by acclaimed photographer Sam Gregg, the visuals seamlessly merge London and Genoa — two cities united by maritime tradition and a shared sporting legacy. Featured in the campaign is Brooke Norton-Cuffy, fresh from winning the U21 European Championship with England, symbolising the bridge between the club’s English past and its promising present.
