Barbara Blanco embodies the soul of Racing Club de Avellaneda—Argentina’s legendary football institution. As the daughter of club president Víctor Blanco, Barbara has played a vital role in the club’s transformative journey over the past decade. Her passion, combined with her family’s dedication, has helped Racing achieve remarkable milestones, culminating in their historic Copa Sudamericana triumph—their first international title in 36 years.
The image of Barbara Blanco sitting on the green turf of Estadio Ueno La Nueva Olla, surrounded by blue and white confetti dancing in the air, her smile lighting up the night sky as tears of joy stream down her face, perfectly captures the profound significance of winning the Copa Sudamericana for her and the club.

Throughout our conversation, Barbara reflects on the emotional significance of this victory, the leadership of coach Gustavo Costas, and the deep connection between the club and its devoted fans. She opens up about her father’s legacy, which has revitalised Racing both on and off the pitch since 2013, leading to a series of national and international successes while cementing the club’s status as a South American powerhouse.
Barbara’s insights also offer a glimpse into the heart of Racing’s identity: a close-knit community defined by its deep-rooted traditions, unshakable passion, and iconic home, El Cilindro stadium. With the club’s presidential elections on December 15th looming large, she discusses the importance of continuity and innovation to ensure the club’s enduring success.
It was a pleasure for The Atlantic Dispatch to speak exclusively with Barbara Blanco as she shared her heartfelt journey with Racing Club, her favourite memories, and her hopes for the future of this cherished institution.

TODOS JUNTOS
The recent Copa Sudamericana victory holds profound significance for both me and my family. Witnessing Racing Club secure its first international title in 36 years was a deeply emotional experience, especially considering my father’s dedication as president since 2013. The image of me smiling on the pitch encapsulates many years of hard work and passion, reflecting the essence of football’s joy and unity.
The journey to winning the Copa Sudamericana this year was exhilarating. Gustavo Costas, our coach, is a legendary figure at Racing, and he was able to connect with the squad and our supporters in a deeply emotional way. “TODOS JUNTOS” (all together) became our motto, and all members of the club focused on our objective: bringing the cup to Argentina.

ONE OF THE MOST PROMINENT INSTITUTIONS IN SOUTH AMERICA
Since my father, Víctor Blanco, assumed the presidency in 2013, Racing Club has experienced a remarkable transformation. It was the beginning of a decade of growth and success for the institution. Under his leadership, Racing has achieved significant titles, including two league championships, three national cups, and an international title—the Copa Sudamericana.
In addition to sporting achievements, his administration has been characterised by strengthening the club’s finances, growing our membership base, and developing key infrastructure projects. He has positioned Racing Club as one of the most prominent institutions in South America over the last decade.
Through this time, my favourite memory is every hug we have shared after each title we have won together.

RACING IS EVERY KISS I GIVE TO MY KIDS
Racing Club is more than just a football team to me; it’s an integral part of my life and identity. The sense of community and shared purpose among supporters and staff alike creates a family atmosphere that is truly special. Racing is every kiss I give to my kids, every hug with my dad, every Sunday brunch with my family—really, it means everything to me.
Racing is unique because of its deeply passionate fans and enduring identity. It is known as “The First Big,” for being the first club to achieve international honours for Argentina. We are also among the most passionate and loyal fans in the world, having been through moments of hardship and glorious victory together. Racing is more than a club; it’s a family.

IT’S AN EXPERIENCE LIKE NO OTHER
For those who have never visited the Presidente Perón Stadium, often referred to as El Cilindro, it’s an experience like no other. The energy is palpable, with an electrifying atmosphere that embodies the spirit of Argentine football. The stadium’s architecture, history, and the fervour of its supporters make every match a memorable event.
TOGETHER WE CAN ENSURE RACING REMAINS A MODEL OF EXCELLENCE
With elections scheduled for December 15, 2024, we seek to continue our project alongside Christian Devia and Víctor Blanco. It is crucial to maintain sporting success, financial stability, infrastructure development, and a strong connection with our members—all guided by a clear vision for the future.
With Christian bringing fresh energy and Víctor providing experienced guidance, our team ensures both continuity and innovation. Together, we can ensure Racing remains a model of excellence in Argentina and world football.
