“No matter your gender, everyone should be able to support a club in their own way.”
IN CONVERSATION WITH LIZ BREED
Some people have football in their blood, others have fashion. For Liz Breed, it’s both. The 24-year-old designer from Lutjebroek, a small town in Noord-Holland, has managed to blend the two in a way that feels completely natural.
“I just graduated with a bachelor’s in design. After graduating, I took a little break from creating, but now I’ve completely fallen back in love with sewing!
I’m originally from a small town called Lutjebroek in Noord-Holland and I always wanted to move to a big city, especially Amsterdam, so I lived there for a year.
“I’m planning to move back as soon as possible because I love being surrounded by inspiring people. But don’t get me wrong—I still love my hometown. I know everyone here, and it brings me a lot of peace.
“As for my love of football, I started playing the game when I was eight and have loved it ever since!” she says. “I was also a super creative kid and have been into fashion from a really young age.”
Those two passions ran parallel for years until university, where she studied design and took a minor in fashion. That’s when things really clicked. It was a university project that set everything in motion.
“I really wanted to create something for women, but I wasn’t sure how. I ended up making a wedding dress out of Ajax scarves,” she explains.
More than just a bold design choice, the dress was a statement—football culture belongs to everyone.
“The idea behind it was to show the connection between supporters—no matter your gender, everyone should be able to support a club in their own way.”
The project had unexpected consequences. While working on it, Liz made a few tops for herself, repurposing scarves and shirts.
“I quickly realised that a lot of people were interested in buying them too.” And just like that, a brand was born. She now creates bespoke tops, giving vintage football shirts a second life and a new audience.
Her next drop is already set. “March 5th! I’ll be releasing 30 new tops from a variety of clubs. Mostly Dutch clubs, but I’ve also got a few from other countries.”
Liz has spent the past year rediscovering her love of sewing after taking a short break post-graduation. Now, she’s fully back in the game and planning her next move—literally.
“I always wanted to move to a big city, especially Amsterdam, so I lived there for a year. I’m planning to move back as soon as possible because I love being surrounded by inspiring people. But don’t get me wrong—I still love my hometown. I know everyone here, and it brings me a lot of peace.”
When she’s not stitching up new designs, she’s finding other ways to channel her creativity.
“Whatever I’m doing, the UV index has to be high, for sure. My ideal day would probably involve spending the day with my twin sister, playing some music, or going to a festival.
“I also pretty much love doing anything creative! I actually started tattooing a few weeks ago, and I love drawing. I also enjoy going for walks or runs, and I listen to a lot of music. Oh, and I make content on TikTok!”
Looking ahead, Liz is feeling optimistic. “I feel like 2025 has a lot in store for me. I’m not exactly sure what yet, but I just have this feeling that it’s going to be my year.”
For now, she’s focused on doing what she loves—designing, creating, and staying open to whatever comes next.
