UNDER THE BLACK AND WHITE STRIPES: GIULIA PUSPI’S LOVE AFFAIR WITH JUVENTUS

“I miss those times. I miss winning, I miss the hunger that Juventus had, and above all, I miss the fear that opponents felt when they faced the Bianconeri.”

Over the next few weeks, The Atlantic Dispatch and our friends at Off The Pitch Archive will be bringing you some of the best female content creators across the beautiful game to underline the importance of supporting women on and off the field.

This week we sat down with Juventus fan, Giulia Puspi to discuss her love for The Old Lady.

GIULIA PUSPI

In the picturesque coastal village of San Felice Circeo, nestled between the Tyrrhenian Sea and the shadow of Monte Circeo, Giulia Puspi was born into a world as tranquil as it was small. “I feel a bit confined,” she admits, the words tinged with the ambition of someone destined for more.

Yet, within this seemingly sleepy Italian enclave, the seeds of a grand passion were sown—one that would ultimately transcend the borders of her village and connect her to a vast global community. That passion was football. And more specifically, Juventus.

For Giulia, football is not merely a pastime; it is a legacy, a tradition passed down by her father, a fervent Juventus supporter who ignited in her an undying love for La Vecchia Signora, the Old Lady of Italian football.

“My love for football, and consequently for Juve, comes from my father,” she recalls. “He passed on all his enthusiasm to me from a young age.” It is a narrative familiar to many fans—loyalty inherited like heirlooms—but one that Giulia has made distinctly her own.

GROWING PRESENCE OF WOMEN IN FOOTBALL CULTURE

Through the lens of her social media presence, she curates a modern-day love letter to Juventus, using her platform to weave a narrative of nostalgia, passion, and hope.

Her posts resonate with sophisticated simplicity, capturing the raw emotions of match day and the shared experience of fandom. But more than that, Giulia has become an emblem of the growing presence of women in football culture.

In a sport still struggling with gender parity, her voice rings clear, advocating for the importance of supporting women both on and off the pitch.

“It’s never taken for granted, and I like to shout it out to the world, always,” she says with conviction. Her platform is not just about Juventus; it is about representation, about carving out a space for women in the male-dominated realm of football commentary and fandom.

ALESSANDRO DEL PIERO IS JUVENTUS

Giulia’s love for Juventus is steeped in history and emotion, shaped by an era of dominance that feels almost mythical in retrospect.

“My favourite memories are from the 9 years of dominance that Juventus enjoyed,” she reflects.

“I miss those times. I miss winning, I miss the hunger that Juventus had, and above all, I miss the fear that opponents felt when they faced the Bianconeri.”

It is not merely nostalgia—it is a yearning for an identity, for a period when Juventus was synonymous with glory.

For Giulia, one name stands above all others: Alessandro Del Piero. “For me, Alessandro Del Piero isn’t just a Juventus player; for me, he is Juventus,” she declares, her words carrying the weight of reverence.

Del Piero, the embodiment of elegance and loyalty, represents not just footballing excellence but also a philosophy of devotion, both to the sport and to the crest.

YOU GENUINELY FEEL AT HOME

This allegiance is reflected in her style. Giulia is a connoisseur of football kits, with a particular love for the vintage.

“I love vintage, so the 2000 shirt is my favourite,” she says. There is a deliberate artistry in the way she incorporates Juventus into her wardrobe—a pink cap here, a scarf there—and an understated nod to her team that feels authentic rather than performative.

But the true cathedral of her devotion is the Allianz Stadium. “The stadium is truly beautiful,” she describes with the awe of a pilgrim standing before a holy site.

“When you enter, aside from the obvious beauty of the stadium itself, you genuinely feel at home.” It is a place where individual passion merges with collective euphoria, where voices converge in unison during the singing of the anthem—a moment she treasures above all others.

ABOVE ALL I LOVE THEIR SUPPORT

This shared experience is at the heart of Giulia’s content creation. “I really like sharing my passion with people, a passion that isn’t just mine alone,” she explains.

In a digital age often marked by detachment, her posts foster a sense of community, a closeness with other fans that bridges geography and culture. “Above all, I love their support,” she adds, highlighting the reciprocal nature of fandom.

Off the pitch and away from social media, Giulia’s life remains grounded in simplicity. “My typical day, when I’m not at the stadium, of course, is work, family, and the gym,” she notes, a reminder that even the most dedicated fans must balance devotion with day-to-day realities.

FRUSTRATION AND HOPE

Yet, as with any great narrative, there is conflict. Juventus, a club synonymous with triumph, now navigates uncertain waters, and Giulia’s faith is being tested. “I genuinely believed that he could do well at Juve,” she says of the current manager.

“To this day, I still can’t form a definite opinion. I just hope that this darkness will lead to immense light.” Her words echo the sentiment of an entire fanbase, caught between frustration and hope.

In a world where football is increasingly commodified, Giulia Puspi represents a purer form of fandom—one built on tradition, loyalty, and identity. Her story is not merely about Juventus; it is about the power of football to shape dreams, connect communities, and inspire the next generation of women to raise their voices in stadiums and on social media alike.

San Felice Circeo may feel small, but through football, Giulia has found a way to make her world infinitely larger. And as she continues to blend passion with purpose, her journey is only just beginning.
